Condolences pour in for AL lawmaker Akabbar Hossain

  DHAKA, Nov 16, 2021 (BSS) - Tributes and condolences continue to pour in
for Awami League (AL) lawmaker and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Road
Transport and Bridges Ministry Akabbar Hossain, who breathed his last at a
city hospital this afternoon at the age of 65.

   Immediately after his death, different political parties and leaders,
expressed their shock and sent condolences.
 
   President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed
profound shock and sorrow at the death of Akabbar.

  In separate condolence messages, they prayed for eternal peace of the
departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

  Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury expressed profound
shock and sorrow at the death of AL lawmaker.

  In a condolence message, the speaker prayed for eternal peace of the
departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

   Besides, JS Deputy Speaker Advocate Md Fazle Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip
Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury also condoled the death of Akabbar and conveyed deep
sympathy to the bereaved family.

   Several ministers and state ministers expressed deep shock and sorrow at
the death of Akabbar.

   The ministers included Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque,
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Agriculture Minister
Abdur Razzaque, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Law,
Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, Foreign Minister Dr AK
Abdul Momen, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Local Government, Rural
Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam, Textiles and Jute
Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Social Welfare
Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim,
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun Environment, Forest,Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad.

  State Minster for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, State Minister for
Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, State Minister for Information and
Broadcasting Dr Md Murad Hassan, State Minister for Primary and Mass
Education Zakir Hossain, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, State
Minister for Water Resources Colonel (retd) Zaheed Farooque, State Minister
for Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharya,
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury also mourned his death.

   Besides, Awami League Advisory Council Member and 14-party alliance
spokesperson Amir Hossain Amu and Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM
Enamul Hoque Shameem expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Akabbar.

  According to the family sources, Akabbar Hossain died at Combined Military
Hospital (Dhaka) while undergoing treatment there.

  His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held on Mirzapur High School premises after Johr
prayers on Wednesday (tomorrow).

  Akabbar Hossain was elected as a Member of Parliament from Tangail-7
(Mirzapur) constituency as an Awami League nominated candidate in the 2001,
2008, 2014 and 2018 parliamentary elections.

   The late lawmaker was born on July 12, 1956 in Postkamuri village under
Mirzapur upazila.

   He was involved in politics through joining Bangladesh Chhatra League
(BCL), student wing of the Bangladesh Awami League, while studying at the
Government Titumir College in 1973. He was the general secretary of the
college unit of Chhatra League.

   In 1986, he was the general secretary of Mohsin Hall unit of Chhatra
League of Dhaka University (DU) and later in 1978, he was the president of
the same hall unit of Chhatra League.

   Md Akabbar Hossain obtained BSS honors in 1977 and MSS degree in 1978 from
the Dhaka University (DU).
