DHAKA, Dec 8, 2021 (BSS) - Dhaka South City (DSC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said that the re-excavation of the original Buriganga River is expected to start in February next.
"Re-digging of the Buriganga river's old channel will start from February next year . . . And we have already started our activities to this end," he told journalists after visiting potential site for constructing a bridge over the Old Buriganga River Channel in Loharpool area of Kamrangirchar Embankment here today.
Taposh said, "We will establish a central commercial zone at Kamrangirchar. . . And we have to build two bridges to ensure our travel facilities, connecting with the original Dhaka."
Terming his instant visit to Loharpool as part of his weekly routine work, the mayor said the root-cause of the visit here with experts, planners and engineers concerned as part of selecting the site where bridges can be constructed for that purpose.
He hoped that a joint-drive would be conducted to remove the rest part of the illegal occupants from the actual Buriganga river site from next week.
In line with the Master Plan, Sheikh Taposh said the activities are being carried out by paying attention to every issue.
"In Kamrangirchar, the river is being dug, the bridge is being built - at the same time, we will convert the embankment road into six lanes," the mayor mentioned.
Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Sitwat Naeem, Chief Engineer Saleh Ahmed, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Chief Revenue Officer Ariful Haque, Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Fazle Shamsul Kabir, Chief Urban Planner Md Sirajul Islam, Regional Executive Officers of the concerned areas, councilors of the concerned wards and women councilors of the reserved seats, among others, accompanied the city mayor during his visit.
