Maizbhandar imam for reforming UN to establish human rights

DHAKA, Dec 11, 2021 (BSS) - Incumbent leader of Islamic spiritual hub of Maizbhandar Sayeed Saifuddin Ahmed Al Hasani today called for reforming the United Nations (UN) as the body could not show any success in establishing human rights in the world.

"The UN established in 1945 aimed at establishing peace in the world has failed to establish human rights due to holding 'veto power' by the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, China and France in the UN Security Council's resolutions," he said.

Ahmed, also chairman of Bangladesh Supreme Party, was addressing a mahfil marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi, Orash of Barapir Gausul Azam Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA) and the fateha of late Khalifa Alamgir Saudagar at Kashiyaish union of Patia upazila in Chittagong on the International Human Rights Day, said a press release here today.

He said the important activities of the UN, including giving new membership, appointment of the Secretary-General and the military intervention, are carried out by the Security Council while the council means the domination of those five super power countries.

Though 193 countries are members of the UN, the main power is concentrated in the hands of only five countries, the spiritual leader added.

The UN has failed to take effective measures against massacre carried out on Rohingyas in Myanmar's Rakhine state, inhumane persecution of Uighur Muslims in China's Xinjiang province, and the acts forcing millions of people in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine to take refuge, Ahmed said.

Noting that the only way to establish world peace is to follow the ideals of the great messenger of humanity Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH), he said, the Medina Charter is the perfect reflection of equality, justice and humanity.

Patia Upazila Chairman Mohammad Motaharul Islam and union chairman Mohammad Abul Kashed spoke as special guests.

Mufti Ahmad Hossain Al Qaderi, Maulana Omar Farooq Naimee, Maulana Ahmedul Haq Maizbhandari, Maulana Nazer Hossain Maizbhandari and Hafez Mohammad Mansur Ali Maizbhandari spoke on the occasion, among others.

Ahmed later conducted a special munajat (prayer) seeking divine blessings for the world, unity of the Muslim ummah and prosperity for the country and the nation.
