DHAKA, Dec 13, 2021 (BSS) - Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin today said concerted efforts are needed to build a developed Bangladesh announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“Non-governmental organisations should come forward to this end. Everyone must work together to change the destiny of the disenfranchised and neglected grassroots people,” he said while speaking at the closing ceremony of a month-long festival, marking the 30th anniversary of the NGO Sushilan this evening.
Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Begum Habibun Nahar, Mir Mustaq Ahmed Robi, MP, Chairman of Khulna District Council Sheikh Harunur Rashid, director-general of NGO Affairs KM Tariqul Islam, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Ismail Hossain, Sushilan executive chief Mostafa Nuruzzaman and Sundarbans and Coast Guard Movement coordinator Nikhil Bhadra also spoke at the virtual event with Sushilan chairman AJM Azizur Rahman in the chair.
Speaking as the chief guest, Shahab Uddin said the government is working hard to protect the lives and nature of the coast from the harmful effects of climate change.
“The government has formulated a delta plan for coastal development. By reducing the risk of natural disasters, the people of the region are being involved in the development,” he said.
The environment minister called upon Sushilan and other NGOs to take special steps to implement the government's action plan.
Habibun Nahar said concerted action should be taken to address the limitless suffering of coastal people.
She said the government has taken initiative to increase the financial capacity of marginalised people.
