SATKHIRA, Dec 19, 2021 (BSS) - Satkhira district correspondent of the national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and valiant freedom fighter Advocate Arun Banarjee died of multiple complications at Satkhira Medical College Hospital today.
He was 70.
"Arun Banarjee was suffering from multiple complications including diabetes, liver and kidney ailments. He breathed his last at 3pm today at Satkhira Medical College Hospital," BTV's Satkhira Correspondent Mozaffar Rahman told BSS.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, relatives and host of admirers and well-wishers.
A guard of honor will be given on him at the Central Shaheed Minar on the premises of Shaheed Abdur Razzaque Park in Satkhira town for his contributions to the great Liberation War in 1971 at 12 noon tomorrow (Sunday).
Later, his body will be taken at Satkhira Press Club for allowing his fellow journalists and others to pay their last tributes to the journalist.
He will be cremated at Rasulpur crematorium here, family sources said.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Arun Banarjee.
He prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to bereaved family members.
Born to a sophisticated family in Kachhari Para area in Satkhira town, Arun Banarjee started his career as a lawyer. He joined journalism in 1968 during his student life.
Arun was also a teacher of Satkhira Law College. Later, he served as an editorial board member of Dainik Ajkal published from Dhaka. He also worked at different local and national dailies.
Banarjee actively participated in 1971 Liberation War. He served as Satkhira district correspondent of BSS till his death.
Arun Banarjee's younger brothers Kalyan Banarjee and Barun Banarjee are staff correspondent of Dainik Prothom Alo and 71 Television's Satkhira district correspondent respectively.
Satkhira Press Club executive body and Satkhira Law College teachers also mourned his death.
