Enamur Rahim for collective efforts to mitigate disastrous sufferings

GAIBANDHA, DEC 29, 2021 (BSS) - State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman in a function here underscored the need for collective and cordial efforts of all people to mitigate the peoples’ sufferings caused by disasters.
    
“As the risks of disaster are gradually increasing due to
various natural and man-made calamities, and there is no alternative to collective and cordial efforts of all people,” he said.
    
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. MdEnanmur said this while addressing a seminar on “Role of People of Grass-Root Level in Disaster Mitigation and Our Doings” organized by Social Development Rural Society (SDRS) in cooperation with District Administration at the hall room of Circuit House of the town here this afternoon as the chief guest.
 
Superintendent of police (SP) Muhammad Towhidul Islam, president of Bangladesh Awami League Advocate Syed Shams-ul- Alam Hiru, chairman of Sadar Upazila Shah Sarwar Kabir, mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Matlubour Rahman, and executive director of SDRS Mostafizur Rahman spoke at the event among others while deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin presided over the function.
    
The speakers in their speeches underlined the need for creating mass awareness among the people on disaster reduction.
   
The chief guest, in his speech, said Bangladesh has gained international recognition for its success in dealing with disasters despite being one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.
    
The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was beside the poor and distressed people during the calamities, he said adding that the government would remain the disastrous people in the future to mitigate their sufferings.
    
He also urged people from all walks of life to come forward with a positive attitude to reduce the loss of lives and properties.
   
Earlier, the state minister also distributed warm clothes and packages of relief materials to 150 cold-affected and distressed people of the district.
