DHAKA, Jan 1, 2022 (BSS) - Former Bangladesh Bank Governor and Bangabandhu Chair of Dhaka University Dr Atiur Rahman today said the new addition of Bangabandhu's book 'Amar Dekha Naya Chin' (The New China as I Saw) will be a wonderful to anyone thinking of long-term and sustainable development through people's empowerment.
"During Bangabandhu's visit to China, he wanted to observe the progress of the post-revolutionary empowerment of the Chinese people and its consequences which was later reflected in the book and thus, it becomes a valuable addition to anyone thinking of long-term and sustainable development through people's empowerment," said Dr Atiur.
He was addressing a public lecture at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Conference Center of Bangladesh Open University, organized by the university's Liberation War Research Centre marking the golden jubilee of the county and birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Dr Atiur, also honorary Professor of Dhaka University (DU) development studies department, said the transformation of the Chinese society and economy left a mark on Bangabandhu's mind which was later visible in the principles and planned development strategies enshrined in the constitution of Bangladesh.
Given the opportunity after independence, he took the initiative to implement several of his thinking came from his observations of visit, he added.
BOU Vice Chancellor Dr. Syed Humayun Akhter presided over the discussion while BOU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Nasim Banu, Pro-VC (Education) and In charge of Liberation War Research Center Dr Mahbuba Nasreen and Treasurer Professor Mostafa Azad Kamal addressed, among others.
