KHULNA, Dec 5, 2021(BSS) - the authorities of Khulna University of
Engineering and Technology (KUET) today suspended four students
including KUET unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) general secretary
Sadman Nahian Sezan for life term following a probe report over the
death of KUET Professor Dr Md Selim Hossain.
The authorities also punished 44 students including seven for two
academic years, said a press release.
The decision was made in an emergency syndicate meeting on the
campus with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sazzad Hossain in the chair.
The syndicate approved punishment against 44 KUET students following
recommendations of probe committee after analyzing 48 page probe
report in KUET disciplinary action committee meeting over the
unnatural death of KUET teacher.
The four students who were suspended permanently: Sadman Nahian
Sezan, Hasan Abdul Quyaum, Md Kamruzzaman Razzak and Reaz Khan Niloy.
Seven students who were suspended for two academic years along with
from dormitory: Md Tahmidul Haque Ishraq, Mahmudul Hasan, Md Sadman
Sakib, Mahin Muntasir, A S M Ragib Ahsan Munna, Mir Zamiur Rahman, and
Rudranil Shingha Shubho.
The authorities also suspended 22 students for one academic year,
while 10 students fined Taka 10,000 each, said the release.
Anisur Rahman, Registrar of KUET, confirmed the news agency about
punishment against 44 students following recommendation of probe
committee.
Quoting probe report, the registrar said, syndicate meeting had
taken decision following probe recommendation after analyzing
student's law enforcement committee meeting, he said.
On November 30, Professor Dr Selim died in a cardiac arrest at his
residence after returning from KUET campus at noon, said Dr Pratik
Chandra Biswas, president of KUET Teachers Association.
He alleged that some unruly students obstructed their colleague
Professor Dr Selim on the campus and used abusive wards demanding
managerial charge of Lalon Shah Dormitory. Prof Selim, also the
Provost of the dormitory, was also mentally tortured, manhandled at
his office at EEE building on Tuesday, he further alleged.
