Ifaton gets PM's recognition for preserving Bangabandhu’s letter

TANGAIL, Jan 11, 2022 (BSS) - 'Vikarini' Ifaton Bewa, who has preserved a
letter of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for five
decades, received the Prime Minister's gift on Sunday last.

The Deputy Commissioner of Tangail Dr Ataul Gani handed over the gift of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that included Taka 20,000 in cash, a Tangail
sari, and fruits to the house of 'Vikharini' Ifaton located at Pankata
village under Dhanbari upazila here.

Deputy Commissioner said that Ifaton and her family received a letter from
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on December in 1972 in
recognition of her husband Ramjan Ali's martyrdom during 'Mahmudpur Genocide'
on September 30, 1971.

"The lady, who is a beggar by profession, has been preserving the letter
for the last 50 years," he added.

When the news drew the Premier's attention, she, on January 9, instructed
the deputy commissioner of Tangail to stand beside Ifaton.

A 'Birnibas' will be constructed for 17 families for their contribution to
Liberation War in 1971.

Besides, pragmatic steps will be taken so that they can get state
recognition and necessary support as the members of the martyrs' families.

"I am feeling blessed to receive cash and gift items from Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina. I am wishing a long life for the Prime Minister," said Ifaton
happily.
