DHAKA, July 2, 2026 (BSS) - The government has formed a 26-member executive body of the National Environment and Climate Change Committee.
Cabinet Division has already issued a notification to this end. The Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister is the chief of the committee.
Other members of the committee include the agriculture minister, water resources minster, disaster management and relief minister, shipping minister, state minister for environment, forest and climate change, executive chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, the land secretary, water and mineral resources secretary, secretary of housing and public works, member of the General Economics Division of the Bangladesh Planning Commission, industries secretary, secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division, secretary of Local Government Division, secretary of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry, secretary of Power Division, secretary of Fisheries and Livestock Ministry, commerce secretary and director general of the Department of Environment, chief conservator of forests, managing director of Bangladesh Climate Change Trust, executive director of the Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS), president of the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and two representatives of civil society experts on environment and climate change nominated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The additional secretary (Environment) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will serve as the member secretary of this committee, a handout said today.
The main functions of the executive committee include - reviewing and monitoring the implementation of the National Environment Policy by various ministries or departments; analysing the implementation activities of the National Environment Policy and providing necessary recommendations for revision in the changing context; taking initial steps to resolve various inter-ministerial problems related to environment and climate change and presenting those to the National Environment and Climate Change Committee, if necessary; reviewing and monitoring the progress of the implementation of the decisions of the National Environment and Climate Change Committee and considering other important issues related to environment and climate change.
