DINAJPUR, July 2, 2026 (BSS) – Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) has expelled six students for life and penalized 60 others over a clash between the students of two residential halls and an attack on an assistant proctor.
“The six students expelled for life are: Naimur Rahman Durjoy of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Sakib Mahmud of Economics, Asif Hossain of English, Asaduzzaman Sagar of Food and Process Engineering, Sourav Ahmed of ECE, and Tasriaf Islam Prantik of Accounting,” said a release, signed by the Director of HSTU Public Relations (PR), this afternoon.
Besides, eight students were expelled from residential halls for six months and fined Tk 2,000 each.
Meanwhile, six other students were suspended from academic activities and residential halls for one semester with imposing fine as Tk 5,000 each, the release mentioned.
“Meanwhile, 46 students were suspended from academic activities for two semesters, permanently expelled from residential halls, and fined Tk 10,000 each for damaging state property with firearms in hands,” the HSTU office order, signed by university registrar Prof Dr Abu Hasan, added.
Earlier on May 21, a clash ensued between some students of Shahid Abrar Fahad Hall and Nur Hossain Hall. During efforts to control the situation, the Assistant Proctor and Associate Professor, Dr Md Mabinul Islam was attacked.
Following the incident, a university-formed enquiry committee submitted its report within the stipulated time.
Subsequently after reviewing the findings, the 27th special meeting of the university’s Housing and Disciplinary Board recommended punitive measures against the accused students.
Talking to BSS, HSTU Proctor Prof Dr Nawsher Oan said the disciplinary actions were taken based on the investigation report and recommendations.
The accused students were given the opportunity to defend themselves, he added.
