RAJSHAHI, Aug 3,  2026 (BSS)- Freeing the footpaths and main road adjacent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), control vehicle parking, and declare the 400-meter area around the hospital as a permanent ‘Emergency Response Zone’ has been sought.

The development research-based youth organization 'Youth Action for Social Change (YASC)' and the cultural organization 'Bhangi Nritya Shilpalay' submitted a memorandum to the Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.

Representatives of the two organizations formally handed over the memorandum at the RCC Administrator's office at Nagar Bhaban today.
The memorandum was jointly signed by YASC Founder and President Shamiul Alim Shawon, and General Secretary of Bhangi Nritya Shilpalay Robin Sheikh.
The memorandum states that RMCH, one of the main centers for medical services for about 20 million people in the northern region, receives more than 13,000 people on average every day for treatment. 

But  the ambulance movement is being severely hampered as footpaths and main roads from the hospital's main gate, emergency department, outdoor gate and from Laxmipur intersection to Ghoshpara intersection are occupied by illegal tong shops, food hotels and uncontrolled vehicle parking,.

As a result, ambulances carrying emergency patients often have to remain stuck in traffic jams for 10 to 25 minutes, wasting crucial times for saving the patient's life.
While submitting the memorandum, Shamiul Alim Shawon said, ambulances are constantly getting stuck in traffic jams due to lack of coordination on the road outside the hospital.

To solve this problem, the City Corporation has to take the lead in inter-institutional coordination.
 Robin Sheikh said such chaos at the entrance of the main government hospital of a modern and orderly city is not acceptable. Keeping the path for emergency medical services unobstructed is  the part of citizens' rights.
Copies of the memorandum have also been given to the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner and the Director of RMCH Hospital.
