DHAKA, July 9, 2021 (BSS) - Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has expressed his deep condolence over the loss of lives at Atami in Shizuoka prefecture in central Japan by the sudden landslide.
"It is yet another manifestation of our inadequacies in the face of the vagaries of nature, often a result of climate change," he said in a message sent to his Japanese counterpart MOTEGI Toshimitsu.
Bangladesh foreign minister conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the members of the bereaved families in Japan, a foreign ministry press release said here today.
"The people of Japan have a very special place in our hearts. We will always stand by our time-tested Japanese friends who stood by the people of Bangladesh since our War of Liberation in 1971." Momen said in the message.
At least two people have been killed and many others have been reported missing after heavy rains hit Japan's central city of Atami in Shizuoka, triggering landslides, said Japanese public broadcaster NHK after the tragic incident took place on July 3.
