DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh today urged Qatar to accord priority to LNG supplies to the country as soon as the Strait of Hormuz reopens and maritime movement resumes.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir made the request during a meeting with Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi on the sidelines of the 23rd OIC Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Jeddah, according to a foreign ministry press release issued here tonight.

During the meeting, Kobir reaffirmed Bangladesh's support for Qatar's mediation efforts between Iran and the United States and commended Doha's constructive role in promoting dialogue as well as regional peace and stability.

Against the backdrop of the disruption in maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz, the state minister requested Qatar to prioritise LNG supplies to Bangladesh once the strategic waterway reopens and shipping resumes.

The Qatari state minister thanked Bangladesh for its support and expressed Doha's readiness to further strengthen cooperation with Dhaka in the energy sector.

The two state ministers also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
