DHAKA, Feb 5, 2022 (BSS) – Tributes and condolences continued to pour in for Bengali daily Bangladesh Protidin Executive Editor Peer Habibur Rahman who passed away today at a city hospital at the age of 57.
Immediately after his demise, people from all walks of life as well as different political parties and leaders expressed their shock and sent condolences.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the eminent journalist.
In separate condolence messages, the President and the Premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Besides, in a separate condolence message, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury condoled the death of Habibur Rahman.
A number of cabinet members also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Habibur Rahman.
Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, Planning Minister MA Mannan, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of noted journalist and executive editor of Bangladesh Pratidin Peer Habibur Rahman.
They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossen, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak , State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid , State Minister for Planning Ministry Dr Shamsul Alam, State Minister for Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Swapan Bhattacharya , State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem mourned his death.
Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce Ministry Tofail Ahmed, MP, Awami League Advisory Council Member and 14-party alliance spokesperson Amir Hossain Amu and Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul-Alam Hanif also expressed sorrow at the sad demise of journo Habibur.
Meanwhile, President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) Hasanul Haq Inu and Genaral Secretary Shirin Akter and leaders of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and Bangladesh Mofossol Sangbadik Forum(BMSF) also mourned Habibur Rahman's death.
Eminent journalist Peer Habibur Rahman passed away while undergoing treatment at a city hospital this afternoon.
He breathed his last at the Intensive Care Unit of Labaid Hospital around 4:08pm, confirmed physicians of the hospital.
Habibur left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives, colleagues and admirers to mourn his death.
