DHAKA, Feb 22, 2022 (BSS) - The United States (US) vaccine donation to Bangladesh has surpassed 50 million as it freshly donated another 6.2 million doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine under COVAX facilities.
This latest donation from the American people brings the total US government vaccine contribution to more than 51 million while many millions more doses are scheduled to arrive over the coming months, an US embassy press release said here today.
The latest delivery is aimed to sustaining the Bangladesh government's effort to expand vaccinations among youth and hard-to-reach communities, it added.
"We applaud the Government of Bangladesh for recently surpassing the milestone of reaching 100 million people with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine," said US embassy Charg‚ d'Affaires Helen LaFave.
Helen also assured that the US would continue to provide vaccines and support to help Bangladesh reach the goal of fully vaccinating 70 percent of the country's people by the middle of 2022.
In addition, the US has provided training to over 7,000 healthcare providers on proper vaccination management, supported cold-chain storage and transportation, and assisted with targeted campaigns to vaccinate students and hard-to-reach people, the release added.
