DHAKA, March 17, 2022 (BSS) - The United States (US) embassy here today said

they salute Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his
102nd birth anniversary for founding Bangladesh.

"During this 102nd anniversary year of his (Bangabandhu's) birth, we salute
his legacy for founding an independent Bangladesh," the embassy said on its
verified facebook page today.

It said the U.S. Embassy Dhaka is proud as Bangabandhu was a U.S. Department
of State exchange program alumnus - one of the very first International
Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) participants.

"We congratulate the people of Bangladesh today as they observe the 102nd
birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,"
said the post.

Recently, at a media briefing here, a US diplomat stationed here said the
celebration of Bangabandhu's birthday has connection with the US as
Bangladesh founding father studied in the US in 1958 as a participant of
International Leadership Programme.

"It shows the link that we have the partnership and relationship with
Bangladesh and Bangladeshi people," he said.

He said the people-to-people contact is an important part of partnership
between US and Bangladesh and "we hope to continue it".

The US awaits a scheduled partnership dialogue on March 20, expecting it to
expand "the robust" relationship with Bangladesh, coinciding with the 50th
year of bilateral relations, US officials in Dhaka said.

"In this 50th year of our diplomatic relations, the United States seeks to
deepen a strong multi-faceted relationships built on mutual respect and
shared interest," said the US diplomat stationed here.

Dhaka is set to host the 8th partnership dialogue on March 20 when US state
department's political affairs under secretary Victoria Nuland will lead a US
delegation while foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen will head the Bangladesh
side.

The two countries have drawn up a series of engagements in coming months as
part of which the US secretary of state Antony J Blinken invited Bangladesh
foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen to Washington to mark the 50-year
anniversary of bilateral ties on April 4.
