DHAKA, March 23, 2022 (BSS) – The government has given Power Division to
the Independence Award 2022 for successfully completing 100 percent
electrification across the country.
The award will serve as a recognition of their contribution to the socioeconomic development through cent percent electrification across the
country during the ‘Mujib Barsha.’
The Cabinet Division today issued a gazette notification in this regard,
saying that the government has decided to give the "Swadhinata Padak
2022" (Independence Award) to the power division under the ministry of
power, energy and mineral resources.
Independence Award, the highest civilian award in Bangladesh, which was
went to the power division today.
Talking to BSS, State Minister for State Minister for Power, Energy and
Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid expressed his deep gratitude to the
Prime Minister for her outstanding support and giving the independent award 2022 to the Power Division.
“With the sagacious and timely steps of the government, the country has
achieved an unprecedented success in the power and energy sector for
the last 13 years," he said.
The state minister said after assuming to power by the Awami League
government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working
sincerely to bring all citizens under electricity access.
He said electricity generation at this moment is 5 times higher compared
to 2009, adding: “Bangabandhu's worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina's time-fitting steps forwarded the country a lot especially in power and energy sector.”
"Today's Bangladesh is in the process of transformation. After
Bangabandhu, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has brought Bangladesh to
the pinnacle of success in all areas especially in power sector," Nasrul
added.
According to the ministry's information, about 100 percent people are
now getting power supply, which was only 47 percent before 2009 and the
generation capacity has stood at 25,514 MW.
