Man suffered injuries in Badda Gas cylinder explosion dies

DHAKA, March 24, 2022 (BSS) - A man, who had sustained burn injuries in a gas cylinder blast in the capital's Badda area, died at a hospital here on Wednesday afternoon.

Md Sahid Hasan, 37, succumbed to his injuries around 6.30pm at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS).

Sustaining 95 percent burns, he was undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS).

Bacchu Mia, Officer In-charge (OC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Police Camp confirmed the incident to BSS saying that being in a critical condition, Shahid was taken to the ICU yesterday.

Dr SM Aiyub Hossain, residential medical officer (RMO) of SHNIBPS, said that victim's wife Rekha Akhter with 30 percent burn, son Safian with 25 percent and Safa with 11 percent- are being treated at the emergency department of the hospital. However, they are also not out of danger yet.

Four members of a family, including children and women, were burnt in a fire following a gas cylinder explosion in the early hours of wednesday at Beraid in the city's Badda Natun Bazar.

According to the fire service sources, the explosion occurred around 3.40am due to gas leakage from a cylinder at Sahid's residence.

Being informed, two firefighter units of Baridhara Fire Service rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 4:10am.
