DHAKA, May 11, 2022 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said the rooftop gardens in the capital, which were left uncared for, are hindering the process to control dengue in the city.
"We are witnessing intermittent raining in the capital. Rain water can get stagnated around the house and gardens on our rooftops. We should not leave the rooftop gardens uncared for as these can become breeding grounds for mosquito. Such uncared for rooftop gardens are hindering dengue-control process," he said.
The DSCC Mayor said this while talking to newsmen after inspecting Dholaikhal Pump Station and Water Reservoir this afternoon. Earlier Taposh inspected special anti-mosquito drive in ward-38 in Wari.
"We give two missions maximum priority in the rainy season. One is anti-mosquito drive and another is to get rid of water logging. We have started our work in advance this time by keep those things in mind.
“Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a survey has found three DSCC wards to be at "high risk" and four at medium risk of an outbreak of mosquito-borne diseases. We are working with these seven wards," Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh added.
The DSCC Mayor also said the corporation has sought 10 executive magistrates from the government to conduct mobile court drives in its 10 zones.
DSCC chief executive officer Farid Ahammed, chief waste management officer Air Commodore Sitwat Naeem, chief engineer Saleh Ahammed, secretary Akramuzzaman, acting chief medical officer Dr Fazle Shams Kabir, chief property officer Russel Sabrin, chief revenue officer Ariful Huq and counselors of the concerned wards were present at that time.
