One held with huge foreign currencies at HSIA

DHAKA, June 6, 2022 (BSS) - Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department officials have detained a departing passenger with huge amount of foreign currencies from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the city on Sunday night.

The detainee was identified as Md Yeasin Mia.

Ahmedur Reza Chowdhury, deputy director of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department, told BSS that during the primary interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he was trying to go to Dubai with the currencies worth around 34.99 lakh in Bangladeshi Taka.

Being informed earlier, the customs intelligence officials nabbed him from International Exit Lounge of the airport, the official added.

Huge amount of dollar, pounds, dinar, dirham and rial along with Bangladeshi Taka were recovered from his possession at that time.

He was handed over to airport police after cases were filed against him under the Special Powers Act and the Customs Act, airport police sources said.
