DHAKA, June 28, 2022 (BSS) – Lawmakers today said the proposed budget will help achieve the expected GDP growth by successful execution of the budget.
Taking part in the general discussion on the proposed budget in the Jatiya Sangsad, the lawmakers said the projected growth rate ultimately has been set in the proposed budget would be achieved through successful budget implementation.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on June 9 in the Jatiya Sangsad unveiled a Taka 6,78,064 crore national budget for 2022-23 fiscal setting the GDP growth target at 7.5 percent amid the economic fallout due to the novel corona virus pandemic coupled with ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.
After widespread infection of COVID-19, Ruling party lawmaker Matia Chowdhury of Sherpur -2 said “achievement of growth rate was rather low in FY2019-20...but it was 6.94 percent in 2020-21 and 7.25percent was in FY2021-22. “We believe that the proposed budget will help to achieve expected 7.50 percent growth rate in FY2022-23,” she told the parliament.
The proposed budget increased allocation for agriculture sector along with the health sector, said Pran Gopal Datta of Cumilla-7.
Lauding the role of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Noor of Nilphamari-2 said the country is marching ahead due to an integrated planning designed by the Prime Minister and that’s why the country is going ahead.
Criticizing role of BNP leader Tareque Rahman, Noor said the so called BNP leader has now opened ‘Hawa Bhaban’ in London and this so called leader never has done any positive works in his life.
Participating in the budget discussion, Deputy Leader of the opposition Jatys Party Chairman Ghulam Muhammed Quader of Lalmonirhat-3 said the budget is credit based and its overall deficit is around 36 percent.
The Jatiya Party lawmaker also expressed doubt on implementation of the budget.
Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin of Maulvibazar-1 said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina must implement the budget.
Treasury bench members, Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi of Narayanganj-1, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury of Dinajpur-2, Whip Md. Atiur Rahman Atik of Sherpur-1, Md. Abdul Hyee of Jhenaidah-1, Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury of Faridpur-4, Md. Anwar Hossain (Helal) of Naogaon-6, Momotaz Begom of Manikganj-2 and Gonoforum lawmaker Mukabbir Khan of Sylhet-2 , took part in the discussion.
Earlier, they paid their glowing tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their utmost sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.
