DHAKA, July 2, 2022 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today said the Broadcast Journalist Centre (BJC) award will inspire the media to work for public interest in the country.
“It (BJC) is a platform that is playing a pioneering role in various activities including welfare of the members, enhancement of skills, risk management, creation of new opportunities in the workplace, encouragement of journalists in research work. In this case, conferring BJC awards in five categories will inspire the media to work in the public interest,” she said.
She was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the third broadcast conference of the Broadcast Journalist Centre (BJC) organized by BJC at Bangla Academy here.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mokbul Hossain was present there as special guest, among others.
The second session of the conference was virtually attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud as the chief guest.
Shirin lauded the free flow of information just because of the broadcast saying that everyone can watch the events of the world at home through broadcasting.
She said the Board of Trustees of the BJC has also been formed considering the huge workload, which is playing an important role in the advancement of the media.
She went on saying that the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps including journalist-friendly policy and formation of wage board as the government is determined to ensure a conducive working environment for the media.
There is a close relationship between the practice and development of democracy and the media, she said, adding that so it is very important to provide objective news.
