Roundtable on 'Communality and Social Responsibility' held

DHAKA, July 28, 2022 (BSS) - A roundtable meeting titled 'Communality and Social Responsibility' was held at CIRDAP Auditorium in the city, which emphasized on making the cultural, social and political organizations proactive to resist the communal evil forces.
 
Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (BPUP) organized the meeting with its President JL Bhowmick in the chair, said a press release.
 
General Secretary Professor Dr Chandra Nath Podder presented the concept paper in the meeting.

Former Information Commissioner Professor Dr Sadeka Halim, senior journalist Abed Khan, Editor-in-Chief of Ekattur TV Mozammel Babu, Joint Editor of the Prothom Alo Sohrab Hasan, Professor of Dhaka University (DU) Mass Communication and Journalism Department Dr Rubayet Ferdous, Sampriti Bangladesh Member Secretary Professor Dr Mamun-Al Mahtab (Swapnil), Bangladesh Adibasi Forum General Secretary Sanjib Drong and journalist Abu Sayeed Khan spoke at the event, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, the speakers stated that the ongoing communal incidents are not isolated incidents and said that the misuse of social media is the main driving force behind these incidents.

"It's possible to resist the communal evil forces by making the cultural, social and political organizations proactive," the release quoted the speakers as the said during the meeting.

All communal discriminations should be eliminated through the complete implementation of the Bangladesh Constitution of 1972, they said, adding that it's the government responsibility to ensure security of all the citizens, including the religious minority.

Noting that the government or the state machinery cannot avoid this responsibility in any way, the speakers said it's not possible to prevent the political evil forces without the concrete declaration of the political power with the non-communal spirit.
