Programmes taken to observe Mourning Day in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 29, 2022 (BSS) - Elaborate programmes have been taken to observe the National Mourning Day-2022 and 47th martyrdom anniversary of the Architect of Independence and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here on August 15 next.

The district administration, Awami League (AL), its associate bodies, Rangpur City Corporation, government departments, educational institutions, sociocultural and professional organizations have chalked out daylong programmes to observe the day.

The district administration chalked out daylong programmes marking the day at a preparatory meeting held here on Thursday with Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan in the chair.

Officials of law enforcement agencies, freedom fighters, heads of different government departments, organizations and educational institutions, politicians and civil society members attended the meeting.

President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, District Council Administrator Advocate Chhafia Khanom, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Golam Rabbani, and Vice-president of city Awami League Shamim Talukder, among others, addressed.

The observance will begin with hoisting of the national flag at half-mast in all government, semi-government, autonomous, private buildings and educational institutions after sunrise.

Wearing black badges, officials, political leaders, freedom fighters, heads of different organizations, institutions and departments and common people will place wreaths at the Mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the morning.

A smart contingent of Rangpur Metropolitan Police will give a guard of honour in front of the Mural of Bangabandhu in presence of high officials followed by observance of a one-minute silence paying due respect to Bangabandhu and offering special munajats there.

Milad mehfils will be organized and special munajats be offered at all mosques after the Johr prayers and at mandirs, churches, pagodas and educational institutions at convenient times seeking divine blessings for the departed soul of Bangabandhu.

Improved diets will be served to inmates of hospitals, jail, shishu paribars, vagabond centres, orphanages and shelter homes of the elderly people.

Posters on Bangabandhu will be distributed and documentary films on Bangabandhu on his historic March 7 speech and struggles for independence and feature films on the War of Liberation will be screened at important places.

 The district administration will arrange the main discussion marking the day at the Town Hall auditorium in the city.

Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar will air special programmes and local newspapers publish special supplements on Bangabandhu marking the National Mourning Day.

The District Shishu Academy will organize competitions on poem recitation, drawing and ready speech for children focusing on the life, works and sacrifice of Bangabandhu and true national history.

Islamic Foundation will organize programmes including recitation from the Holy Qur'an, Hamd, Na'at and Doa mehfil and a discussion on the life and works of Bangabandhu at its auditorium in the city.

The district, city and upazila units of Awami League and its associate bodies, district unit of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, Joybangla Sangskritik Oikko Jyote and many other organizations will observe the day with elaborate programmes.

The programmes include hoisting of the national flag and party flags at half-mast at party offices, wearing black badges, placing wreaths at Bangabandhu's Mural, mourning processions, recitation from the Holy Quran, Doa mehfils and discussions.

Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Medical College and other educational institutions and upazila administrations will observe the day with similar programmes, including placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, discussions and doa mehfils.
