Govt is working to turn P C Roy’s birth place into tourism spot: K M Khalid

KHULNA, Aug 3, 2022 (BSS) - State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid Hossain has said that the nation could not forget the contribution of Achyarya Prafulla Chandra Roy for his great role in establishing educational institutions and women empowerment.

“P C Roy contributed in many areas including chemistry and philosophy as he was a great scientist, social worker, educationist and poet,” he said this while speaking the 161st birth anniversary of the legend at his birth place Raruli village under Paikgachha Upazila in Khulna district yesterday.

Founder of Bengal Chemicals and inventor of Mercuric Nitrite P C Roy created stirring globally after inventing it and established co-operatives bank for the wellbeing of the people, he said adding that everybody should be known his innovation and creativity through hectic publicity.

A vested group has occupied a portion of paternal land of the philanthropist; he uttered with agony and said the government has been working to make the heritage as a tourism spot after free his native land from the grabbers.

Organised by Khulna District Administration, Member of Parliament (MP) from Khulna- 6 Akteruzzaman Babu, Superintendent of Police Mahbub Hossain, Chairman of Paikgachha Upazila Parishad Anwar Iqbal Montu, President of P C Roy Smrity Parishad Freedom Fighter Sheikh Shahadat hossain Bacchu, Paikgachha UNO Momtaz Begum and Chairman of Raruli Union Parishad Freedom Fighter Abul Kalam Azad addressed the event with Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Md Moniruzzaman Talukder in the chair.

Earlier, the Minister paid homage to the legend scientist’s portrait and Kapilmuni Boddhobhumi, a place where Pakistani army and their collaborator Razakars, Albadars, Alshams killed hundreds of freedom fighters during Liberation War in 1971.
