Bangamata sacrificed whole life for country: Shahab Uddin

DHAKA, Aug 8, 2022 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin today said Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib dedicated her whole life for the freedom and development of Bangladesh. 

Along with Bangabandhu, Bangamata also dreamed of the independence of the country and Sonar Bangla free from hunger and poverty, he told a discussion here. 

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change arranged the discussion and doa mahfil on the occasion of the 92nd birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib.

Chaired by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed, the meeting was addressed, among others, Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar, Additional Secretary of the ministry Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Bangladesh Rubber Board Chairman Syeda Sarwar Jahan, Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation Chairman Md Shahidul Islam, Director General of Department of Environment (DoE) Dr Abdul Hamid and Chief Conservator of Forests Md Amir Hosain Chowdhury.

Speaking as the chief guest, Shahab Uddin said Bangamata was not only Bangabandhu's wife, but also a fellow warrior and an inspiration. 

This self-sacrificing woman took all the responsibilities of the family on her shoulders and gave Bangabandhu opportunities to focus on the nation building, he said. 

In addition, the minister said she gave constructive advice to Bangabandhu in decision-making in various difficult times of politics. 

"This brave warrior with human dignity, struggler and protester gave strength, courage and enthusiasm to the people to stand against the Pakistani rulers as a suitable life partner of Bangabandhu," he said.

Shahab Uddin said during the imprisonment of Bangabandhu, Bangamata took the lead of the family and the party and kept in close contact with the people. 

Bangamata used to bring all instructions of Bangabandhu from prison to Awami League and Chhatra League, he said.

"Again, she used to inform Bangabandhu about all the events of the movement at the jail gate. Begum Mujib's firm stand for Bangabandhu's release on parole especially in the Agartala conspiracy case accelerated the Bangalees' liberation struggle, which will be written in golden letters in the history of Bangladesh's freedom struggle," Shahab Uddin said.

After the discussion, a doa mahfil was held at the mosque of the Forest Department. During this time, the officials of the ministry and its all departments and organisations joined it.
