3 panels to contest at JU VC panel election

 
SAVAR, Aug 11, 2022 (BSS) - The election to nominate a three-member panel for 
appointing one of them as the next Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar 
University will be held tomorrow. 
 
The election will be held in a special senate session following the section 
11(1) of Jahangirnagar University Act-1973.
 
Earlier, Pro-Awami League teachers announced three panels to contest the 
election while 'Bangabandhu Shikkok Parishad' announced two separate panels.
 
Led by JU VC Prof Nurul Alam, Dean of Physical and Mathematical Sciences 
faculty Prof Ajit Kumar Majumdar and President of JU Teachers' Association 
Prof Dr Laek Sazzad Andallah formed the VC-backed panel under the banner of 
'Bangabandhu Shikkok Parishad'.
 
Led by former JU Pro-VC Prof Amir Hussain, prominent Archeologist Prof Sufi 
Mostafizur Rahman of JU Archeology department and Prof Dr. Prithila Najnin 
Nelema of JU Bangla department formed another panel under the banner of 
'Bangabandhur Adorsho o Muktijudder Chetonai Bishwasi Progotishil Shikkok 
Somaj'.
 
Besides, the General Secretary of the JU Teachers' Association Prof Md. 
Motaher Hossain, President of the Provost Standing Committee Prof Abdullah 
Hel Kafi of the International Relations department and Prof Tapan Kumar Saha 
of the Chemistry department formed another panel under the banner of 
'Bangabandhu Shikkok Parishad'.
 
Voting will begin at 4 pm at a special session of the university Senate at 
Senate hall. Vice-Chancellor Prof Nurul Alam will chair the session while JU 
Registrar Rahima Kaneez conduct the polls as election commissioner.
 
On July 27, JU authorities decided to hold the panel election to nominate a 
three-member panel for appointing one of them as the next Vice-Chancellor 
(VC) of the university.

The last VC panel election was held on February 20, 2014. Professor Farzana 
Islam, Professor Abul Hasan and Professor Amir Hossain were elected at the 
election. 

Later, Professor Farzana Islam was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of the 
university.
