DHAKA, Aug 25, 2022 (BSS) - Members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police have arrested five people in a case over the murder of Al Amin at Karail slum in city.
This was disclosed by Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Harun-or Rashid at a press briefing at DMP media centre here today.
He said Al Amin was killed in the city's Banani Karail slum centering extortion and dominance in the area.
He said the arrestees are Mohammad Ali, Md Khawaza, Md Amjad, Md Russell and Md Masud Rana.
"A DB team carried out operations in different areas of the capital on August 23 and arrested them," Harun, also the DB chief, said.
He said Deputy Commissioner of DB, Gulshan Division Moshiur Rahman coordinated the operation, which was conducted by Team Leader of Cantonment Zonal Team SM Rezaul Haque.
The DB police also recovered various weapons, including knife, chapatti and ramada from their possession.
The DB chief said that Karail slum is situated at Ward No. 19 and 20 under Banani police station, which was constructed on government land of T&T, Rajuk and PWD.
Al Amin was killed in a fight between Nuru-Kabir-Ali gang and Ripon-Jewel-Shubha group on Ershad ground and Noorani Mosque area on August 17, aimed at controlling illegal collection of various bills for utility services and realizing house rent, he said.
When a case was filed with Banani police station regarding Al Amin's murder, the DB Gulshan Division started a shadow investigation.
Later, the detective police arrested five accused on August 23 and they are now at DB custody.
