CHATTOGRAM, August 27, 2022 (BSS)- Three cases were filed against 400 people
on Friday night in connection with the clash between the activists of
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and police in Banskhali upazila of the
district which left 45 people injured.

Banskhali Thana Police filed the cases on Friday night, said Officer-in-
Charge (OC) of the thana Kamal Uddin.

In the case, former President of Chattogram South District BNP and former
Minister Zafarul Islam Chowdhury, South District BNP Convener Abu Sufian and
its Member Secretary Mostak Ahmed have named among the 66 people and more
than 300-400 unnamed leaders and activists of the BNP were sued.

"Police have so far arrested six people in this connection," the OC added.

Kamal Uddin told BSS that 66 people have been named after watching the video
footage and three cases have been filed against another 300 to 400 people for
assaulting on police, obstruction of government work and human traffic and
cocktail explosion.

Earlier, BNP took out a procession and lodged this clash in front of Kalipur
Ezarul Hoque High School premises at Banskhali upazila on Friday afternoon.

Banshkhali upazila and municipality of BNP organised the protest rally as
part of their countrywide programme against the price hike of essential
commodities, fuel and transport fares, unbearable load shedding and killing
of their two leaders in Bhola.

At one stage, police obstructed them when they tried to stage demonstrations
at Chattogram Banskhali road of Kalipur point around 3 pm.

The leaders and activists pelted brickbats targeting police, prompting them
to blank fire and lobbed tear gas shells, triggering a clash that left at
least 45 people injured, the police added.

Over 15 policemen including ASP Humayun Kabir, OC Kamal Uddin and Sub-
Inspector (SI) were injured, said Inspector (Investigation) SM Arifur Rahman
of Banskhali Police Station.
