DHAKA, Aug 30, 2022 (BSS) - Six members of a family, including two children, suffered burn injuries as a fire caused by apparent gas leakage broke out at their house in Jinjira Mandail area of city's outskirts Keraniganj early today.

The injured were identified as Mosammat Begum, 60, Panna Begum, 50, Sonia Akter, 26, Sahadat Hossain, 20, Yeasin, 12 and Mariam Akhter, 8.

Neighbours of the victims said the fire might have originated at the ground floor of the two-storey building before dawn due to leakage in a gas cylinder.

The injured were taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS).

Dr Partha Shankar Paul, a resident medical officer of the SHNIBPS, told BSS that Mosammat Begum received 23 percent, Panna Begum 30 percent, Shahadat 52 percent, Yeasin 28 percent, Mariam 60 percent and Sonia 23 percent burn injuries.

"Yeasin has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. The rest are being treated in High Dependency Unit (HDU) as they are in critical condition," he said.
