3-day conference of AL sub-committee on environmental protection begins tomorrow


 
DHAKA, Sept 01, 2022 (BSS) - A three-day international 'Conference on
Environmental Protection for Sustainable Development' will begin on Dhaka
University (DU) campus here tomorrow with the theme 'Green Bangladesh:
Prosperous Bangladesh'.
 
Awami League (AL) sub-committee on forests and environment is organizing the
conference while AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister
Obaidul Quader will be present at the inaugural session as the chief guest at
9 am at DU Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban here, said a press release
here today.
 
Environmentalist Professor Dr Atik Rahman will be present at the event as the
theme speaker while Australian environmental scientist Professor Dr Benjamin
Howden and Japanese environmentalist Professor Hiroyuki Matsuda will be
present as plenary speakers.
 
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, State
Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, Deputy Minister for Education
Barrister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury and DU former vice-chancellor
environmental scientist Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad will join the inaugural
function as special guests.
 
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Aktaruzzaman will be present at the function
as the guest of honour while Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial
Research (BCSIR) Chairman Professor Dr Md Aftab Ali Shaikh will deliver the
welcome address.
Chairman of the Awami League (AL) sub-committee on forests and environment
Professor Khandaker Bazlur Rahman will chair the inaugural session while AL
Forests and Environment Affairs Secretary Delwar Hossain will conduct it.
 
 
Apart from national experts, environmental scientists from 20 countries
across the world will join the conference, which will end on September 4 at
the CIRDAP auditorium in the city following a concluding ceremony.
 
AL Joint General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan
Mahmud will address the closing ceremony as the chief guest while State
Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and BRAC University Professor
emeritus and water resources and climate change expert Dr Ainun Nishat will
be present at the special guests.
