DHAKA, Sept 7, 2022 (BSS) - State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md
Zakir Hossain today said 100 percent literacy rate will be achieved in the
country by 2030.
"The literacy is being increasing rapidly because of the different programmes
taken by the government which will be 100 percent by 2020," Md Zakir Hossain
told a press briefing today marking International Literacy Day at the
Secretariat.
Md Zakir said the work of preparing the bureau's future action plan is
ongoing with the firm determination of developing skilled human resources by
providing basic education and skill development training to the
underprivileged people through the non-formal education bureau.
The plan also include strengthening human resources structure of the bureau,
building organizational capacity of the bureau and, adopting and implementing
regular operational activities based on the capacity.
The state minister, citing the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of
Statistics (BBS), said the literacy rate in the country now stands at 75.6per
cent while 24.4 percent people of the country are still illiterate.
The expected development in the country is not possible without making 24.4
per cent people literate, he added.
He also said the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education is implementing the
Fourth Primary Education Development Program (PEDP-4) to ensure quality and
up-to-date education for all children.
Primary and Mass Education (PME) Senior Secretary Md Aminul Islam Khan and
Director General (additional in charge) of primary education Mohibur Rahman,
among others, were also present at the press conference.
