RANGPUR, July 31, 2021 (BSS) – Panchagarh District Corona Prevention Committee (DCPC) today donated 150 oxygen cylinders to Panchagarh Modernised Sadar Hospital (PDMH) for treatments of Covid-19 patients of all five upazilas in the district.

Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner and President of DCPC Md Jahirul Islam handed over the oxygen cylinders in a function held at his conference room to Civil Surgeon Dr Fazlur Rahman to stand beside the Covid-19 infected patients of Panchagarh district.

Panchagarh DCPC procured the oxygen cylinders with locally collected money and handed over those in the function arranged strictly abiding by the health directives in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Panchagarh Mohammad Yusuf Ali, District Council Chairman Anwar Sadat Sarat, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Azad Jahan, General Secretary of Panchagarh unit of Bangladesh Medical Association Dr Mansur Alam, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arif Hossain, Panchagarh Press Club President Shafiqul Alam and senior journalist Shahidul Islam Shahid attended the event.

Addressing the occasion, the SP said the police department would cooperate to refill the oxygen cylinders.

“Refills of the oxygen cylinders can be made spending around Taka 100 and Taka 150 or even at lower cost. The police department will continue to assist the hospital authority towards the direction,” he said.

Civil Surgeon Dr Fazlur Rahman said there is no intensive care unit (ICU) in the government health service facilities, including PDMH and upazila health complexes, across Panchagarh district. However, there is no oxygen crisis.

“The donated oxygen cylinders will be sent where needed across the district. Many voluntary organizations have come forward with oxygen cylinders. Hopefully there will be no problem in providing oxygen to Covid-19 patients,” he added.

The Deputy Commissioner especially called upon common people to properly abide by the health directives, hygiene rules and wear masks and maintain physical distance to face the Covid-19 pandemic, remain safe and keep others safe.
