No scope of returning to caretaker government system: Anisul

DHAKA, Sept 29, 2022 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said there is no scope of returning to caretaker government system as country’s law has declared it as illegal.

“Bangladesh’s people believe in law. They respect country’s apex court and have high regard for it. Bangladesh’s Supreme Court has declared the concept of caretaker government as illegal. So we have no scope of returning to it,” he said.

The minister said this while talking to newsmen after attending a seminar marking World Maritime Day-2022 organized by Ministry of Shipping at InterContinental Hotel this afternoon.

Presided over by Md Mostafa Kamal, the function was also addressed by State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Shipping Major (retd) Rafikul Islam, BUET Prof Mir Tarek Ali and Director General of Department of Shipping Commodore Md Nizamul Haque, among others. BUET Prof Dr Mohammad Tamim presented key-note speech at the function.
When asked about some BNP leaders’ comments about bringing the people involved in the trial of its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, to justice, the law minister said such threats are tantamount to contempt of court.

“The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made much progress regarding human rights,” he also added.

Emphasizing the importance of shipping sector, the law minister at the seminar said the shipping is the most reliable and affordable means of transport for transportation of goods and it makes the international trade easier.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury in his speech said all the sectors in the country have seen extraordinary development in last 14 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Five persons and organizations from the maritime stakeholders were awarded at the function for their special contributions in the sector.
