IGP asks police to ensure service with professionalism

DHAKA, Oct 4, 2022 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today asked field level police officers to serve people impartially by performing duties with professionalism.

"People first come to police station for getting services. Police station door never close. We want to make Thana as the first place of trust for services," he said this while exchanging views with all Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs, District Superintendents of Police and Officers-in-Charge (OC) of all Police Stations virtually.

Additional IGP Md Kamrul Ahsan delivered welcome speech, while Additional IGPs and other senior officers of Police Headquarters were present.

Citing the example of humanitarian policing during the extreme disaster during COVID-19, the IGP said that police performed their duties with utmost sincerity and stood by the people and served them, which will be remembered with respect.

He said the trend of sincere service by the police members to common people should be continued in the future.

"As the Father of the Nation's 'people's police', we have to meet the challenge of making impossible into possible with professionally like in the past," Mamun said.

Regarding militancy, the IGP said, Bangladesh is now a 'role model' in combating militancy and terrorism. "We have to strengthen our activities to combat militancy in the future."

He said that action will be taken against any policeman who will be found guilty of immorality or corruption.

Issuing stern warning against drugs, he said, "Our position is 'zero tolerance' against any policeman, who will be found involvement in drugs."

Mamun said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved tremendous progress in various sectors. "We will work towards building a police suitable for the developed country of 2041."

He sought cooperation from all during his duties as the IGP.

He expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the premier for appointing him as the IGP.

In the beginning of his speech, the IGP paid deep respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

 He remembered Begum Fazilatun Nessa Mujib and all martyred family members of Bangabandhu, all the freedom fighters, the brave policemen who sacrificed their lives at Rajarbagh on the night of 25 March, 1971.
