RAJSHAHI, Oct 6, 2022 (BSS) - Seven districts of total eight ones in Rajshahi division have attained remarkable success in birth-death registration in the last 2021-2022 financial year.
The seven districts have grabbed positions among ten top-listed ones in the country's 64 districts and Naogaon district clinched the top position in Rajshahi division, while the second position in national level.
Divisional Deputy Director of Local Government Division Dr Chitralekha Naznin said Chapainawabganj bagged the second position in the division, while the third position in national level and Pabna got third and fourth positions in divisional and national level respectively.
Natore district bagged the fourth and fifth positions in divisional and national, Sirajganj got the fifth and seventh positions in divisional and national, while Rajshahi district attained sixth and eighth position in divisional and national levels respectively.
Apart from this, Joypurhat district obtained seventh and fifth positions in divisional and national, while Bogura got ninth and 23rd position in divisional and national levels respectively.
Dr Naznin said the present government has made the birth registration within 45 days of baby borne, while death registration within 45 days of any death mandatory and the message has been reached to everyone on priority basis as no basic public service will be available without birth registration.
Welcoming the government decision, a divisional level birth-death registration taskforce has been formed and in line with this Naogaon district has clinched the top and second positions in the divisional and national level respectively, she added.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division GSM Zafarullah said seven districts of the division remained in the ten top-listed districts of the country and the success has been attained with the collective efforts of district administration, upazila nirbahi office and local government sections.
He opined that wide-ranging mass-awareness about the importance of birth and death registration can be the best way of achieving sustainable development goals in this field.
Birth and death registration of all citizens of the country has become an urgent need for formulating a flawless database in near future.
Commissioner Zafarullah said many people suffer a lot due to errors in birth registration. So, birth registration must be prepared with correct and similar information in all personal documents.
He said the divisional level meeting has been organized here with the main thrust of bringing Rajshahi division under 100 percent birth and death registration.
"We are now in the list of developing countries. For further development, more progress is needed in the process of birth and death registration," he added.
