NARYANGANJ, Oct 9, 2022 (BSS) – Five persons including an auto-rickshaw driver were killed and six others injured in a road accident at Kanchpur bridge of Siddirganj on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the district this morning.

Among the deceased, four were identified as auto-rickshaw driver Abu Hanif, 25, Mamun, 25, Nuruddin, 45, Jamal Mia, 42 while the identity of another person, thought to be 35 years old, is yet to be ascertained.

The accident occurred in the area at 9:30 am as a Dhaka-bound microbus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying eight passengers bound to opposite direction, leaving auto-rickshaw passenger Nuruddin dead on the spot, said Nabir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kanchpur Highway police station.

Later, six to seven injured persons were immediately rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and others to two local hospitals.

But, the duty doctor announced three of the injured death on arrival to DMCH.

Another injured Jamal Mia succumbed to her injury around 12:30pm while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police, however, seized the microbus but its driver managed to flee.
