DHAKA, OCT 12, 2022 (BSS) - “Sheikh Russel Day” will be observed in the country in a befitting manner on October 18 marking the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's youngest son Shaheed Sheikh Russel.
“The Sheikh Russel Day-2022” will be observed as a national day throughout the country and different Bangladesh missions in abroad”, said State Minister for Information Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak at a press conference here today.
To mark the day, elaborate programmes have been chalked out by the ICT Division which will begin through placing of wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Russel at his grave at Banani graveyard at 6:00am on October 18.
Concerned ministries, divisions, offices and agencies will pay respect to Sheikh Russel by placing wreaths at their own office premises at 6:30am on that day.
ICT Division will arrange a colorful rally in front of the Planning Commission at 7:30am and the rally will end at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) premises after parading different thoroughfares of the capital.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to open the day’s programme at BICC’s Hall of Fame formally as chief guest at 10:00am and will distribute Sheikh Russel Padak.
In addition to this, a national seminar on tragic killing of Sheikh Russel will be held at BICC at 2:30pm and “concert for peace and justice” also will be held at the same venue on the day at 6:00pm.
Prior to this, an international seminar titled “Tragic End of Sheikh Russel : A Shame in Human History” will be held at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) auditorium at 9:00pm at night on Oct 16(Sunday).
Different sorts of programmes including discussion will also be held at all division, district and upazila levels across the country. Sheikh Russel Jatiya Shishu-Kishor Parishad will arrange an art, chess, national football tournament and cultural competition marking the Sheikh Russel’s birth day.
The main theme of the day has been selected like “Sheikh Russel is a symbol of innocence, farfetched, lively and fearless”.
“We want to forge all children and adolescents of the country as a fearless generation”, said the ICT state minister in his address of the press conference.
Chaired by Director General of the Digital Security Agency Khairul Amin, the press conference was also addressed, among others, by Bangla Academy president and eminent writer Selina Hossain, Sheikh Russel Shishu-Kishor Parishad president KM Shahidullah and A2i project director Dewan Muhammad Humayun.
