5-day BGB-BGP border conference begins in Nay Pyi Taw

DHAKA, Nov 24, 2022 (BSS) - A five-day high-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Guard Police (BGP) of Myanmar began this morning in Myanmar's capital of Nay Pyi Taw.

A 10-member Bangladesh delegation led by BGB Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed is taking part in the 8th border conference, said a BGB press release received here.

Apart from BGB's senior officers, the Bangladesh delegation also includes representatives of the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs.

On the other hand, a 15-member Myanmar delegation led by Police Major General Aung Naing Thu is participating in the conference.

Apart from senior officers from BGP, Myanmar delegation also includes representatives from the country's ministries of defence, home affairs, foreign affairs, and labour, immigration and population affairs.

Issues including de-escalation of the tension at the border caused by the recent internal conflict in Myanmar, violation of the air space, combating inter-state terrorism and preventing the activities of cross-border criminal groups, prevention of illegal infiltration, prevention of intrusion, human trafficking and drugs including yaba and crystal meth ice, enhancing mutual cooperation to ensure border security, exchange of various border related information, conducting joint patrolling, organising regular coordination meetings or flag meetings at the region and battalion levels, repatriation of detained or punished citizens of both countries, repatriation of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals to their original abodes and increasing mutual trust between BGB and BGP will be discussed in the conference.

The Bangladesh delegation is scheduled to return to Dhaka on November 28.
