Mirza Fakhrul, Abbas land in jail over Nayapaltan clash

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2022 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today sent BNP secretary general 
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party's Standing Committee Member Mirza 
Abbas to jail in a case lodged over the clash between party men and police at 
Nayapaltan in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order as police 
produced the two BNP leaders before the court and pleaded to keep them behind 
the bars till the end of probe in the case. The defence, however, pleaded for 
their bail.

The two were produced at court from detective branch (DB) office around 
4.10pm.

A man was killed and several others including policemen were injured in the 
clash in front of BNP central office in Nayapaltan on December 7. 

Police filed the case against 473 leaders and activists of the BNP and 
another 1,500- 2,000 unnamed people, with the capital's Paltan Police 
Station.
