DHAKA, Dec 11, 2022 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said BNP and its allies are trying to come to state power through an unconstitutional way.
"The elected government will hand over power in a constitutional process . . . But the BNP and their allies are trying to assume office through an unconstitutional means," the minister told a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club here today.
The minister added: "BNP and their allies do not respect the constitutional rules. Whatever they are saying is against the provisions of the Constitution."
Rezaul Karim was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Bangabandhu, Liberation War and Bangladesh" at the Jatiya Press Club's Abdus Salam Hall today.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance) and Dainik Bhorer Akash jointly organized the programme with Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote's vice-president and editor of the daily Freedom Fighter Monoranjan Ghoshal in the chair.
The fisheries minister said if they do something unconstitutional, according to article 7(a) their actions to be included in the crime of treason.
Referring to the BNP and their allies' unruly activities, including torching people and vehicles through petrol bombs and destroying the roads, he said they could not even overcome the image crisis till date on the contrary; they are trying to come to power through unconstitutional means.
In the month of victory, the defeated forces want to raise their heads and are seen plunging, added.
Bangladesh Awami League's Cultural Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, MP, was present as a special guest in the event while Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote's general secretary Arun Sarker Rana conducted the meeting.
Manoranjan Sheel Gopal, MP, Prime Minister's former health and family welfare Advisor Professor Dr Syed Modasser Ali, former general secretary of Dhaka South City Unit of AL Shahe Alam Murad, Bangladesh Krishak League's vice-President of Sheikh Jahangir Alam, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote vice president Dr Arup Ratan Chowdhury, vice- president Rokeya Prachi and joint general secretary Tarin Jahan, among others, spoke.
