BEIJING, March 28, 2025 (BSS) – Mangoes and jackfruits are the most delicious fruits in Bangladesh due to their rich tastes and quality, and when a world leader admires of those, it brings a special significance to these fruits.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is among those who like to eat Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits due to their delicious taste.
During a meeting with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today, the Chinese President informed that he has tasted Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits, and applauded the taste of the two fruits, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told BSS on the sidelines of the meeting in Beijing.
Alam said the attribution of President Xi Jinping would help Bangladesh export its mangoes and jackfruits to China.
“As a result, we hope the export of Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits to China would begin from next season (May, June, July and August),” he said.
The press secretary said Bangladesh is expected to export the two varieties to China in a bigger way in the coming months.
Bangladesh Chief Adviser Prof Yunus held a bilateral meeting with the Chinese President at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing this morning.
China was keen to import mango, guava and jackfruit from Bangladesh, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said at a recent meeting with Prof Yunus in Dhaka.
The Chief Adviser had earlier requested the Chinese government to import mango, guava and jackfruit from Bangladesh.
At a press recent briefing in Dhaka, Alam said the Chinese government is very interested in importing these three types of fruits from Bangladesh, expressing that this would open a new horizon for Bangladesh's exports to China.
The press secretary said, “We will be able to export jackfruit there on a large scale. Besides, an opportunity has also been created for large-scale mango exports as the Chinese people like to eat Bangladeshi mangoes."
He said standards have to be maintained in the export of mangoes, so the World Food Programme (WFO) will provide US$ four million and technical assistance for exporting Bangladesh’s fruits.
