RAJSHAHI, Sept 10, 2024 (BSS) - A court in Naogaon has sentenced 26 people
for life term imprisonment each in a verdict of a case lodged around 26 years
earlier.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Mukhlesur Rahman found them guilty and
pronounced the verdict.
The court also fined each Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer more two months of
rigorous imprisonment.
They were convicted on charges of killing Azim Uddin, 55, a resident of
Bharatta Shibnagar village under Manda Upazila in the district on December 2,
1998.
The prosecution story, in brief, the accused had killed their neighbor Azim
Uddin with lethal weapons as previous enmity over a disputed land on December
2, 1998.
Later, son of the deceased Amzad Hossain had lodged a case with Manda Police
Station on the same day. After completion of investigation, police pressed
charges accusing 34 people.
After examining the depositions of 26 witnesses and other relevant evidence,
the court handed down the verdict on Monday noon.
Advocate Shamsur Rahman conducted the case on behalf of the state, while
Rafiqul Islam defended the accused of the case.
