DHAKA, Aug 12, 2023 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said that the film 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation', the biopic based on the life and works of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will remain as a document of history.

 
"Those who want to know Bangabandhu and the history of Bangalees' freedom struggle, this movie will help them a lot," he said.

Hasan, also ruling Awami League (AL) joint general secretary, was addressing the censor certificate handing over ceremony of the film, a joint production of Bangladesh and Indian governments, as the chief guest at InterContinental hotel in the city this afternoon.

Noting that this is a type of film that can be watched in one sitting without feeling boring, he said, "The way the life of Bangabandhu, Bangalees' liberation struggle and the tragic events of 1975 have been delineated in three hours, showing film director's talents a difference between other film directors, thanks to Shyam Benegal".
 
It has been possible for him to be with this film from the beginning of production to its release as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave the responsibility of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he said, adding: "I express my gratitude to Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for giving time despite her busyness to make this film. It was my great pleasure to watch the film with the Prime Minister".

The information minister thanked film director Shyam Benegal and other artistes and co-artistes for presenting such a wonderful movie.

Bangladesh Film Censor Board (BFCD) Chairman and Secretary of Information and Broadcasting Ministry Md Humayun Kabir Khandaker and Vice-Chairman Md Saifullah handed over the censor certificate.

On behalf of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) Managing Director Nuzhat Yasmin and on behalf of India, script writer Atul Tiwari received the certificate at the function.
 
Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Dr Abdul Malek, former Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, artistes of the biopic Arifin Shuvoo, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Dilara Zaman, Raisul Islam Asad, Chanchal Chowdhury, Khairul Alam Sabuj, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahidul Alam Sachchu, Gazi Rakayet, Sangeeta Chowdhury, Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Riaz Ahmed, Sabbir Ahmed, Zayed Khan, Sayem Samad, Mostafizur Rahman and Himadri Barua, associate director of the film Dayal Nihalani and line producer Satish Sharma were present at the function, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, BFCD Chairman and Information Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khandaker said production of the historical film by the teams of the two countries is a unique example of mutual cooperation.

Arifin Shuvoo, who portrayed Bangabandhu in the film, said, "After acting as Bangabandhu, I have no regrets even if I don't do any more acting or even have to leave the world".

Script writer Atul Tiwari said, "We are grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for trusting us to make a film on her father's life. We and the artistes of the film have tried our best to make this film the best one".

Fazlur Rahman Babu, who portrayed Khandakar Mostaq in the film, said, "If the viewers of the film throw shoes at me for acting in this villain character in this film, it will be treated as an award for me".

Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Dilara Zaman portrayed the role of Bangamata in the film.
