Mahmud seeks Belarus support in making Bangladesh EEU observer

DHAKA, March 11, 2024 (BSS) - Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today sought Belarush support in the process of making Bangladesh as the observer of Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) as well as for signing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

He made the appeal while visiting Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Evgeny Shestakov paid a call on him at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a foreign ministry's press release said here.
 
During the meeting, the Bangladesh foreign minister also urged Belarusian businessmen and entrepreneurs to invest in the Economic Zones and Special Economic Zones and High-tech Parks of Bangladesh.

He thanked Belarusian people for their valuable support during Bangladesh's War of Liberation in 1971 as a part of the then USSR.
Belarus Deputy Foreign Minister invited Mahmud to visit Belarus.

Both side expressed satisfaction over the current status of bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed hope that in the coming day's bilateral relations will be further strengthened and deepened.

All important aspects of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Belarus including trade and investment, agricultural, educational and military cooperation, cooperation in science and technology and cooperation in legal issues were also discussed during the meeting.

Mahmud also sought support from Belarus on the initiatives of the UN and other multilateral bodies for repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their motherland Myanmar from Bangladesh.
