Chief Adviser goes to Rangpur tomorrow to visit Abu Sayed's home

RANGPUR, Aug 9, 2024 (BSS) - Chief adviser to the newly formed interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus will visit the home of Shaheed Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, who was killed in police firing during quota reform movement.

"Dr Muhammad Yunus will arrive in Babanpur village of Pirganj upazila by helicopter around 9:30 am on Saturday. He will offer ziarat at Abu Sayed's grave and talk to his family members," Rangpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Mobasswer Hasan told BSS.

Upon his arrival at Dhaka airport on Thursday, Dr Yunus recalled Abu Sayed and became emotional.

"At this moment, I am remembering Abu Sayed, whose image is etched in the memory of every Bangladeshi. Nobody can forget it. What an incredibly brave young man he was! He stood in front of guns, and since then, no young man or woman has given up. They have moved forward and said, shoot as much as you can. We are here," he said.
Abu Sayed, who was a key coordinator of the quota reform movement at Begum Rokeya University, led from the front during the movement.

On July 16 last, Sayed was killed in police firing during the movement. He was buried the next day in Pirganj upazila.
