Fakhrul urges all to remain united

RANGPUR, Aug 14, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged all to remain united in any possible trouble.

He made the call at a harmony rally organised at Zafarpara Darul Ulum Madrasa ground this afternoon here after visiting the grave of martyr Abu Sayed at Babanpur in Pirganj.

Rangpur District unit of BNP arranged the rally.

Speaking as the chief guest, Fakhrul, "We are not free from risk yet, so we must remain united to face the threat. We have to establish justice at all levels of the country through unity and by cleaning up the institutional mess, a government of people has to be established through new elections."

Pointing at the newly formed interim government, he said: "We want neutral elections. Create conducive environment for holding the neutral elections."

The BNP secretary general said many people have been killed all over Bangladesh and that is why all have to be united to make their sacrifice meaningful.

"We must be united to resist the evil conspiracy of Awami League," he added.

He said citizen committees should be formed at marginal level, including the capital, and the committees will protect communal harmony.

Fakhrul said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony, where the Hindus, the Muslims, the Buddhists and the Christians all live together. "Everyone should be careful so that none can take the opportunity to destroy the existing harmony," he added.

He mentioned that national leader Begum Khaleda Zia, who is always sincere in establishing democracy and always uncompromising against the constitution, called upon all the BNP men not to take the path of revenge and vengeance.

"We will make all the people united with love and will build a new Bangladesh. The unity of students-people should be strengthened. Every agitating party must remain alert and united so that the defeated forces cannot return. The defeated ones must be eliminated. We will establish democracy," the BNP leader said.

BNP Central Joint Secretary General Harunur Rashid and BNP Rangpur Division Unit Organising Secretary Principal Asadul Habib Dulu also spoke at the rally with BNP Zila unit convener Saiful Islam in the chair.

Fakhrul said Pirganj has now taken a place in history as its son Abu Sayed has created a new history in Bangladesh with the blood of his chest.

"This history is the history of self-sacrifice of the youth, the history of the new liberation war and the history of freedom of the people of Bangladesh," he added.

The BNP secretary general said a student of English literature at Rangpur Begum Rokeya University, Abu Sayed scarified his life, demanding the resignation of the murderous fascist government of Bangladesh.

Several hundreds of students shed their blood across Bangladesh demanding the fall of the autocrat government, he said.

He said Bangladesh is autocrat-free today but its complete independence is yet to be achieved. "You know that amid the pressure of the people, Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave the country and flee to India due to the sincere intervention of our patriotic army," he added.

Fakhrul said Sheikh Hasina is not sitting quietly even after fleeing to India, while she has been hatching a new conspiracy to mislead the world by saying that repression are being carried out on the minorities in Bangladesh.

"So, we held the harmony rally. We all – the Hindus, the Muslims, the Buddhists and the Christians - together held this harmony rally to consolidate the new independence we have achieved," he added.

The BNP leader said Sheikh Hasina's government killed several hundreds of people and destroyed the economy of Bangladesh to remain in power forcibly.

"It destroyed the political structure of Bangladesh. It destroyed democratic institutions and established family reign and fascism. She (Hasina) thought that she would never have to leave power. She used to say in a very loud voice that she will never run away. 'I am Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's daughter, I will not run away'. She couldn't keep her words, and left the country by a helicopter within half an hour after a mass uprising," he said.

About Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Fakhrul said: "Where is that gentleman? He repeatedly said that he will not run away but will go to Fakhrul's house. No one knows where he is now. I invite him to come to my house."

Addressing the BNP leaders and activists, he said all the people of Bangladesh have woken up now against those who killed hundreds of people and filed hundreds of false cases.

"There is no single person present here who does not have a case against him or her. Even though this terrible murderous government has fallen, their ghosts are still in Bangladesh. We have said that not all cops are bad, those police officers who carried out these murders should be immediately arrested and brought to justice," the BNP secretary general said.

He said Sheikh Hasina must be brought to book, while all the ministers in her cabinet, who were involved in stolen, robbing and killing people, must be tried, too.

"The trial has begun...today that's why they ran away and you woke up," he added.

Fakhrul said the family of Sayed had an expectation on their child that Sayed will remove their misery. Sayed used to teach students, he said, adding Sayed was a very talented and brave soul and how police of a country fired in the chest of one directly, he said.

"What a great soul, Abu Sayed, who stood with both hands raised, did not stop after being one shot, but he was shot again," he said.

Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited the grave of Abu Sayed soon after reaching Babanpur of Pirganj at 1:40pm. He then met the family members of Abu Sayed.

He told reporters that the Awami League government has fallen as a result of its corruption and misrule in the country.

"With the sacrifice of many, including students like Abu Sayed, Bangladesh was liberated for the second time. The sacrifice of these martyrs, who sacrificed themselves for the sake of the country's constitution, will never be forgotten. Therefore, our responsibility is to stop the conspiracy of fascism and to restore democracy here," Fakhrul said.

He urged the people not to fall in any conspiracy but cooperate with the interim government.

During the anti-discrimination student movement, Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, was shot dead by police on July 16.
