DHAKA, Aug 19, 2024 (BSS) - Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said maintaining law and order situation across the country is the top priority of the government.
"Keeping the law and order situation under control in the country is the first priority of the incumbent government," he told journalists after a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis at his ministry office.
The adviser also said that the first priority of the agriculture ministry is to increase the overall agriculture production for the huge population and ensure food security in the country.
He said, "We have discussed what kind of cooperation and support the UN can provide us to deal with this situation. We need cooperation in various sectors."
Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam said that the UN will send a fact-finding mission team to Bangladesh. "Discussion was held with them regarding what kind of cooperation they will give and what kind of cooperation we want from them," he added.
"The Rohingya population here is increasing rapidly, which is creating a pressure on our country. The UN is providing us support in this regard," he said.
The home adviser said that the meeting also discussed about further UN support for Bangladesh in future.
Among others, public security division senior secretary Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, security services division senior secretary Md Mashiur Rahman and officials concerned were present in the meeting.
