Power situation to be improved by next three weeks

DHAKA, Sept 11, 2024 (BSS) – Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. M. Fouzul Kabir Khan today hoped that the present electricity situation would be improved by the next three weeks as the government had taken various pragmatic measurers to this end.

Referring to the present load shedding, he said that technical glitches were found at Barapukuria power plant, which is being repaired urgently while Rampal power plant went into operation,” he said.

The adviser made the remarks when a delegation of Forum for Energy Reporters Bangladesh (FERB) led by its Chairman Shamim Jahangir paid a call on him at his ministry’s conference room at Bangladesh secretariat here.
 
Giving details, he said the authorities concerned have been communicating with Gautam Adani, an Indian businessman, while appropriate steps are been taken to import gas urgently.

The adviser said the difference of present interim government with the immediate past one is that the present government was not formed through a demy election rather it was an outcome of blood and sacrifice made by so many students and people.

Fouzul Kabir said that he had taken so many initiatives after assuming office in power and energy sectors for the greater national interest.

These initiatives included suspending the Special Act, 2010 and cancellation of Section 34Ka of the BRC Act, reducing fuel prices and removing secretaries from the chairman of the companies.

Calling upon the journalists to cooperate the present interim government by providing data on corruption and irregularities found in the country’s power and energy sector so that they could provide better services to people.   

“I don’t have any personal choice…I don’t believe in statistics rather I will judge everyone on the basis of how people are benefitted by their works,” he added.
 
Besides, the adviser said the government has taken various steps to formulate transfer and recruitment policies aimed at preventing malpractices in transfer and recruitment process and stopping looting in power and energy sectors as well.
 
Welcoming Fouzul Kabir Khan for taking charge as adviser to power, energy ministry, FERB delegation assured him that they will continue to cooperate the government aimed at building a sustainable power and energy sectors.
